Web Developers Toolbox

I have been in the website development industry as a professional web developer now for over 4 years, and in that time I have found many a useful tool on the web which have provided me with the ability to do something I needed to do quite quickly, however these tools are all over the place and difficult to find. When I went into freelancing on my own at the end of 2008 I decided I was going to create my own little toolbox of tools I would use and host them on an internal server. This was a great thing to do as every time I needed access to a tool I could quickly and easily find it.

Then in February 2010 I had a epiphany, why should it just be me that is able to use these tools? Why dont I put some of my internal tools on the world wide web (Albeit with no guarantee of fit for purpose) and give anyone who wants to use them the ability to do so? And this is why webdevelopertoolbox.co.uk has been made. The first thing to note is this site will always be a work in progress, as it is being created as and when I have a free 15 minutes or so.

My Wife and friends are asking me questions about why I am doing this all of the time, considering I am busy with all of the other work - and I feel some of these questions many people will want to know

• Why create the site? - This is perhaps the simplest thing of all to answer. The website development industry has given me an ability to earn a living, there are many people a lot less fortunate than myself out there who need a little help in finding the tools - why shouldnt I simply help them out like others have helped me?
• How is this site funded? - As I run a business, everything needs to pay its own way - and this site is no exception..... But dont worry this does not mean you need to pay me a penny to use this site. I took the decision early on to provide this site free of cost for every user, rather than provide a subscription service. Instead we will be running a number of adverts using various methods, from affiliate marketing to google adsense. In the case of the adverts sponsored by google (and the search facility) the advertisers pay us a small amount for each click - and in the case of some of the paid directories / banner ads we get paid a commission for each signup.
